AIRO Group's RQ-35 Heidrun drone, battle-tested in Ukraine, is now cleared for US defense procurement after earning Blue UAS certification.
AIRO Group Holdings won Blue UAS certification for its RQ-35 Heidrun drone, clearing the hand-launched, 2.5-hour endurance aircraft for acquisition by the US Department of War and federal agencies under NDAA compliance.
"The RQ-35 has already earned its stripes in some of the toughest conditions a drone can face, and Blue UAS approval removes an important procurement hurdle," Joe Burns, chief executive officer of AIRO Group, said.
The RQ-35 Heidrun, developed through AIRO's Sky-Watch brand, has accumulated extensive flight hours in contested, GPS-denied, and electronically degraded environments during active deployment in the Ukraine conflict. The system is fully autonomous, hand-launched, and designed for rapid deployment by a single operator, with optional on-board AI capabilities. AIRO recently opened a manufacturing facility in Phoenix, Arizona, to meet growing US demand, with full operational capacity expected later this year.
The Blue UAS designation, granted by the Defense Contract Management Agency, streamlines access to DoW and federal procurement channels, accelerating AIRO's ability to compete for US defense contracts. The certification strengthens the company's position as a vertically integrated, US-based provider of trusted intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance solutions as demand for NDAA-compliant systems rises.
The Phoenix facility serves as AIRO's primary domestic hub for production, delivery, and lifecycle support. With domestic production capacity expanding, the company is positioned to scale deliveries to defense, government, and critical infrastructure customers. AIRO joins a growing roster of Blue UAS-listed manufacturers including Skydio and Anduril Industries, all competing for a share of the US military's expanding drone procurement budget.
AIRO Group, headquartered in McLean, Virginia, operates across the US, Canada, and Denmark. The company combines drone platforms with advanced avionics, integrated training capabilities, and embedded autonomy through a vertically integrated model. AIRO trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker AIRO.
